Our TUI UK & Ireland Choir charity single, a cover of Louis Armstrong’s 1929 hit ‘When You’re Smiling’ is on sale now! You can download the single from iTunes, Google Play and Amazon.
The choir was first set-up in 2014 with 12 weeks from start to performance and the quality was so good we reformed the choir for a second year, but this time after 12 weeks of rehearsals, the final performance was at a recording studio.
All proceeds from the sale of the single will be handed to the holiday our long-standing charity partner, the Family Holiday Association. The FHA is built on the belief that spending quality time together results in stronger, healthier and happier families and communities. The money raised will help to provide much-needed seaside breaks for UK families struggling with some of life’s toughest challenges, such as disabilities, mental health issues, bereavement or domestic violence.
Our Head of Engagement, Lydia Hatley, said: “The choir has been an amazing success – it’s a highlight in the things we do to engage colleagues and make this a great place to work. The time rehearsing, performing and recording the single has really bonded a group of colleagues who may never have encountered one another in their daily jobs; they’ve not only made friends but connections we’re benefiting from as a business too.”
Andy Guthrie, co-founder of The Workplace Choir Company who we’ve partnered with to create the choir, added: “It has been a delight to work with such an enthusiastic and dedicated bunch of people. The effort the choir has put into rehearsing and learning the music has paid off in so many ways. I’m amazed by what they have achieved in such a short time, but for me, the best thing about this choir has been watching individuals blossom and grow in confidence both as individuals in the group, but also as singers.”
Nick Longman, said: “The reaction we had the first time the choir performed was probably better than anything we have seen in a Town Hall meeting before, and I am incredibly proud of what the guys have achieved in such a short amount of time.”
Lydia added: “We have exciting plans for the future that will mean even more colleagues in different locations can get involved.”
