1st July 1966

After going to college and completing a shorthand typing course, a young Ellen Davey, secured a position at Mahony’s Travel in Luton, as a secretary to the Managing Director.

On the 1st July 1966, Ellen  turned up for her first day at work, where she ended up helping out in the Business House and Ticketing side of the company, Ellen found it much more arndale-1970sinteresting than typing, so continued in the role, helping  Mahony’s to flourish and grow,
so much so that in the mid-seventies, Mahony’s relocated to The Gallery, in the newly opened Arndale Centre in Luton, this caused great excitement, as they now had an “inside toilet”.

In August 1979 Mahony’s Travel was bought out by Lunn Poly. Ellen was given a new role, as Counter Supervisor, where she  gained extensive recognition as she continued to expand  and grow the business, as the new “package holiday” grew from strength to strength.                            Lunn Poly logo

In early 1980, Ellen was promoted to Manager of The Gallery.

1982 saw Ellen and her team; win Horizon’s Shop Of The Year, where they were treated to a VIP day at Silverstone. Ellen still has a copy of the programme, which cost 70p !

1990 saw Ellen relocating, as Manager to Welwyn Garden City, it was here that she became an integral member of Northern Home Counties region.Ellen Davey

On January 2nd 2003 after 23 years as a Manager, Ellen thought she might take things a little easier and relocated to Stevenage as a Travel Advisor.  Is she taking things easier …. no! Ellen has a huge customer base, some of which have followed her from Welwyn Garden City, others that have been personally recommended to Ellen and new customers that have returned to Ellen after experiencing exceptional  service.

On the 1st July 2016 Ellen Davey will celebrate 50 years of service with the company,  not bad for someone who started out as a shorthand typist !
